Biographie

Détenteur d’un doctorat en géographie à l’Université Simon Fraser, boursier postdoctoral du CRSH et du CRÉUM, Robert Huish a aussi fait partie du programme AnÉIS de l’école de santé publique.

Ses intérêts de recherche font converger le problème de l’équité en santé mondiale avec l’éthique en santé publique. Il se penche particulièrement sur une gamme d’interventions en santé publique pilotées par les services de la politique étrangère cubaine qui, depuis plusieurs années, envoient des dizaines de milliers de médecins cubains servir différentes communautés partout dans le monde, tandis que des milliers d’étudiants en médecine de l’étranger viennent à Cuba pour étudier gratuitement dans leur domaine. Son projet, «How Cuban medical outreach programs manage to enhance, and sustain, human resources for health within marginalized communities», interrogeait l’éthique institutionnelle de ces interventions et leur capacité à renforcer une main-d’oeuvre en santé mondiale.

Robert Huish holds a Ph.D. in Geography from Simon Fraser University and was a SSHRC postdoctoral fellow at CRÉUM as well as in the school of public health’s AnÉIS program.

His research interest rests between the pursuit of global-health equity and the understanding of public-health ethics. He is focused on a series of public health initiatives loaded into Cuba’s foreign policy that have seen tens of thousands of Cuban physicians serve vulnerable communities abroad, while thousands of students from abroad have come to Cuba for free medical education. His project, « How Cuban medical outreach programs manage to enhance, and sustain, human resources for health within marginalized communities » explored the institutional ethics of these interventions and the role they play in scaling up a much-needed global-health workforce.
