Le droit et la religion à l’hôpital
New book from Bertrand Lavoie (Sherbrooke), entitled Le droit et la religion à l’hôpital. Une ethnographie du pluralisme des valeurs aux urgences, published at Presses de l’Université de Montréal.
In the emergency room, considered one of the few universal spaces in a fragmented society, clinical teams encounter a multitude of patients with diverse values and beliefs. Despite the material and time constraints in an often difficult context, caregivers must engage in ethical dialogue, in the pursuit of everyone’s well-being.
This work relates the unprecedented ethnographic investigation carried out by the author on daily life in emergency rooms. It reflects how, in this pluralistic environment, health professionals find solutions and adapt to the particularities of patients to guarantee them optimal care.
