The Interuniversity Research Group on Normativity (GRIN) is proud to offer 3 scholarships valued at $2,000 for master’s students and 6 scholarships valued at $5,000 for doctoral students.

GRIN brings together more than twenty researchers interested in the philosophical study of normativity, an area of research characterized as much by its variety as its importance. Questions related to normativity are central to several debates in contemporary philosophy. GRIN thus brings together researchers from ethics, philosophy of action, philosophy of mind, philosophy of psychiatry, and epistemology.

For the scholarship, GRIN welcomes applications from candidates working under the supervision of a regular member of the group* and writing a thesis or a dissertation on a topic aligned with the current research focus areas of the group, namely:

• Normativity and Rationality
• Normativity and Affectivity
• Normativity and Society

Eligibility:

• The student must be enrolled full-time in a graduate program.
• The student must conduct their research under the direct supervision of a regular member of GRIN.*
• The student must be able to interact in both French and English.

Scholarship objectives:

To support graduate studies in the field of philosophy of normativity.

Award amounts:

• $2,000 for master’s students (3 scholarships available)
• $5,000 for doctoral students (6 scholarships available)

Award duration:

One year, starting September 2024 or January 2025 (if applicable).

The scholarships will be paid in two instalments (one at the beginning of each semester). The second instalment is conditional on the student’s attendance and the quality of participation demonstrated throughout the first semester.

Fellow’s obligations:

Conduct a research project consistent with the submitted proposal and within the specified timeframe, and actively participate in:

• The development and execution of specific projects involving at least one researcher or another GRIN scholar: co-writing an article, organizing a scientific event, workshop discussions on a manuscript in preparation, etc.
• Scientific activities organized by GRIN and its members (workshops, seminars, conferences)
• Activities and projects specifically dedicated to GRIN scholars: writing and training workshops, reading and/or discussion groups, preparation and participation in the end-of-year study day, etc.
