Phd and MA scholarships

The Aesop Chair, currently held by Denise Celentano (2024-2028), is offering several PhD and MA scholarships for students whose research focuses on topics within the philosophy of work or other topics in political, social, economic philosophy or ethics of AI. 

Subject to conditions, PhD scholarships are renewable for a total of 3 years, and the MA scholarships for another year.

Students will work under the supervision of the Chair holder. Other than the Department of Philosophy of the University of Montreal, students will be affiliated with the Centre de Recherche en Éthique, with a possibility of co-funding.

Eligibility requirements:

Doctoral scholarship:

• Be enrolled full-time in the PhD Philosophy program at the Université de Montréal in the academic year 2025-2026 (application for admission can be made after the results are announced, but payment of the bursary is conditional upon the enrolment in the program);
• Hold a MA degree in philosophy or equivalent;
• Demonstrate a sufficient knowledge of French.

Master’s scholarship:

• Be enrolled in a MA program in philosophy at Université de Montréal in 2025-2026;
• Hold a bachelor’s degree in philosophy or equivalent.

Applications requirements:

Doctoral scholarship:

• A cover letter (max. 300 words);
• A curriculum vitae;
• All university transcripts;
• Doctoral research project (max. 800 words, plus references);
• Two letters of recommendation. 

Master’s scholarship:

• A cover letter (max. 200 words);
• Curriculum vitae;
• All university transcripts;
• Master’s research project (max 300 words, plus the references);
• One letter of recommendation.

Applications will be judged on the excellence of the student’s academic record and the quality and originality of the research project.
