Call for Applications – Postdoctoral Fellowship in Environmental Ethics – 2017-2018
The Centre for Research on Ethics (CRE) located at Université de Montréal invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellowship in ethics and environment (gross salary of $36 000/year) for a 12-month period starting January 1, 2017. Subject to evaluation, the position is renewable for an additional nine months.
Applications must be submitted no later than September 15, 2016.
General rules:
- Candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. after September 1, 2011.
 - Candidates must have defended their thesis before January 1, 2017.
 - Candidates must have sufficient knowledge of the French and English languages to be able to participate in the activities of the centre.
 
Target audience:
Researchers who are working on topics related to ethics and the environment. The proposed research must focus on a subject related to the environment that raises ethical issues. The choice of topics includes issues that affect human behaviour and moral duties towards the non-human world; analysis of the nonhuman; the use and distribution of environmental goods and services; environmental regulation, etc.
The CRE will offer to its fellows:
- A gross salary of 36 000.00$ per year[2];
 - An individual workstation;
 - Access to the university services (libraries, etc.);
 - Assistance for material organization of the stay.
 
In return, the fellows are expected to:
- Pursue the research project as submitted;
 - Participate in CRE and GREEA’s (Groupe de recherche en éthique environnementale et animale) activities (conferences, seminars, lectures);
 - Using those activities to present their ongoing research to their fellow researchers (CRE and GREEA)
 - Be present on a regular basis where the postdoc will be located (e.g. at CRE).
 
Applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- The nature and quality of the research project and its relevance to the mission of the ethics and environment axis of CRE;
 - The quality of previous research by the applicant and the potential benefits to the applicant of a stay in the ethics and environment axis of CRE.
 
Candidates should send the following documents to the CRE:
- their curriculum vitae;
 - an article written or published over the last three years;
 - a research project of up to 1500 words;
 - two letters of reference (to be sent directly to the CRE before the deadline);
 - A doctoral academic transcript (if possible);
 - The properly filled out Postdoctoral fellowship form.
 
[2] Please note that provincial and federal taxes, as well as other deductions, will be withheld from paycheck, for a total deduction of about 6 to 7% of the salary.
