Biography
Dr. Jeremy Schmidt, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, Durham University.
Dr. Schmidt researches the social and ethical dimensions of water, land, and energy on an Earth transformed by unequal human actions. He is the author of Water: Abundance, Scarcity, and Security in the Age of Humanity (2017), and co-editor of Water Ethics: Foundational Readings for Students and Professionals (2010). His work on water, ethics, and Indigenous rights has been cited and debated in the Alberta legislature. He has been an invited expert to the UN Dialogue on Water Values by the Vatican and the Club of Rome. He was named a Trudeau Scholar in 2009, and in 2015 he received the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Impact Award (Talent Category). His research Interests are: Water, Energy, Land, Ethics, Anthropocene, Earth System.
