Biography
Léon Gatien holds a certificate in psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the Université de Sherbrooke. His main research interests include decolonial philosophy, animal and environmental ethics, and social epistemology. For his Master’s thesis, conducted at UQTR under the supervision of Naïma Hamrouni and Claude Gélinas, he examines the concept of animalization, particularly its distinct role in the colonization of North America by British and French settlers. This work seeks to deepen understanding of how speciesism and anthropocentrism may have contributed to power structures developed at the expense of Indigenous peoples living in present-day Quebec. Léon is also a board member of the Société de transport de Trois-Rivières and a regular member of the Canada Research Chair in Feminist Ethics.
