Biography
Marie-Eve Bouthillier holds a PhD in Applied Human Sciences with a specialization in bioethics from the University of Montreal. Her primary education is in psychology, and she has completed a graduate diploma in bioethics (UdeM), as well as a master’s degree in ‘Medical Ethics and Law’ at King’s College London in England. Her research interests focus on medical assistance in dying, ethics support structures, consultation processes, levels of care, resource allocation, the futility of care, and therapeutic obstinacy. For several years, she has been practicing in clinical and organizational ethics at the CISSS de Laval, where she founded the Ethics Center. The Ethics Center is the internship site for students in the clinical ethics programs of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal. In March 2020, she was mandated by the Assistant Deputy Minister, Dr. Lucie Opatrny, to support the ethical issues related to urgent work associated with the pandemic, including triage for access to intensive care and prioritization of access to surgery.
