Biography
Valérie Lafond holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR). With a longstanding commitment to climate issues, her master’s research in occupational therapy focused on current and anticipated sustainable practices among occupational therapists in Quebec.
Currently, she is a doctoral candidate in philosophy with a concentration in applied ethics at UQTR, under the supervision of Marie-Josée Drolet and Marie-Michèle Lord. Her dissertation explores experiences of justice and injustice among migrant populations facing climate crises. She aims to elevate the perspectives of individuals in vulnerable situations impacted by climate change, promoting a holistic understanding of climate injustices and, when possible, mitigating them by highlighting the solutions proposed by those directly affected. Additionally, she intends to conduct a scoping review to analyze how structural injustices shape the vulnerability of individuals and communities to the consequences of the climate crisis.
Valérie also teaches in the Occupational Therapy Department at UQTR and is a founding member of the Community for Occupational Therapy Engagement in Equity and Environment (C4E).
