Biography
Virginie Manus has a background in institutional healthcare communications, a field in which she spent several years following her university studies in communications in France (Université Paris-Descartes). Arriving in Quebec over 10 years ago as part of a professional collaboration to develop research, training and workshop projects for Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal’s Centre National de Danse thérapie, she resumed her studies in bioethics at ESPUM in 2015, earning her master’s degree in 2017. This was followed by multiple professional collaborations in project management, communication, knowledge transfer and research coordination, notably with the Réseau de recherche en santé des populations du Québec, the Institut de recherche en santé publique de l’Université de Montréal and the Observatoire International des impacts sociétaux de l’IA et du numérique.
Her interests focus on collaboration between artists and researchers in ethics and public health, as demonstrated through participation in the AI-Ship research project on the AI-human relationship (2018-2020) and the exhibition Les nouveaux états d’être / The New States of Being (Centre d’exposition de l’Université de Montréal) dealing with the ethical issues of AI in different spheres (health, culture, environment, public safety).
Currently a doctoral candidate in bioethics under the supervision of Bryn Williams-Jones, she is exploring the possibility of developing and implementing art-based public health intervention programs for “vulnerable” populations (NPO in progress). Her action-research project, conducted in partnership with the community organization Les Petits Frères, is entitled “Art and bioethics: a synergy to promote the autonomy and socialization of seniors”.
