The CRÉ is pleased to offer travel stipends to graduate students presenting their work at conferences or workshops in Quebec, but outside their home institution’s region, during the 2024/25 academic year. Applications for bursaries must be submitted by 15 March 2025.

Eligibility

  • Graduate students (Master’s or PhD) supervised by a co-researcher of the CRÉ (full list here);
  • Must be presenting a paper at the event to which they are travelling.

Stipends cover:

  • Return transportation to event location (most economical option); accommodation; per diems; registration and/or membership fees, where required for participation.
  • Bursaries will cover amounts up to $1,500.

To apply

Please send the following information to Éliot Litalien (eliot.litalien@umontreal.ca) by 15 March 2025, with ‘Grad student travel’ as the subject line:

  • Information about event (including dates) and confirmation that you are presenting (or have submitted an abstract);
  • A brief explanation (up to 500 words) of how participating in the event will advance your research or career;
  • Budget, including quotes for airfare/train/coach and accommodation; include per diems (for Canadian destinations: breakfast $13, lunch $22, dinner $35; for non-Canadian destinations: breakfast $15, lunch $27, dinner $48).

Reimbursement:

Successful applicants will be issued the stipend after the main expenses have been incurred, so as to reduce the amount of time they are out of pocket for travel expenses. Full instructions for reimbursement will be communicated to successful applicants.
