Creation of the Réseau québécois de recherche et de mutualisation pour les revues scientifiques

The Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) are pleased to announce the creation of the Réseau québécois de recherche et de mutualisation pour les revues scientifiques. This major research infrastructure aims to strengthen the ecosystem of scientific publication in French in Quebec as well as to guarantee the maintenance, sustainability and full development of Quebec scientific journals publishing in French. This grant, in the amount of $10M over five years, and following a call for proposals launched last December, will make it possible to mobilize the driving forces of public academic scientific publishing, and to facilitate the transition to the model of publication for open science, the “diamond” model.

The grant holder, who will act as general director of the Network and its pole directors are the following:

Francis Gingras, University of Montreal: Principal Investigator/General Director of the Network
Anne-Marie Fortier, Laval University: Espaces Revues
Niemann, Tanja, Scholar: L.A. Platforme
Stéphanie Gagnon, University of Montreal: Bibliothèques.com
Vincent Larivière, University of Montreal: Découvrabilité 2.0

“The Réseau québécois de recherche et de mutualisation pour les revues scientifiques should be a place of convergence of the multiple expertise necessary for the discoverability of scientific work published in French. The Network should also support Quebec journals and researchers in this pivotal moment in scientific publishing called to move to open access, integrate automatic translation tools and move towards open science. The Network should become a driver of innovation for scientific publication and a voice for Quebec research on the international scene.”

– Louise Poissant, scientific director, Quebec Research Fund – Society and culture

“A new important milestone to promote the development of science in French has just been reached. The creation of the Réseau québécois de recherche et de mutualisation pour les revues scientifiques will make it possible to support scientific publications in French in Quebec in the shift to open access and open science. I warmly congratulate the holder of the grant as well as the directors of each of the Network’s centers. The Network’s work in terms of sharing services, strengthening the discoverability of scientific content in French and supporting Quebec scientific journals towards open access will benefit the scientific and student community, but also the science user communities. here and of the Francophonie.”

– Rémi Quirion, chief scientist of Quebec
