GRIN Postdoctoral Fellowship 2016-2017

The GRIN (GRIN) invites applications for its postdoctoral research fellowship (gross salary up to $36 000/year) for the academic year 2016-2017. Subject to evaluation and available funding, the position is renewable for an additional year (2017-2018).

The GRIN’s mission is to study normativity as it unfolds in four major areas of philosophy: ethics, action theory, philosophy of mind and epistemology

We also admit applicants from other disciplines, provided their research is directly linked to questions about normativity in those domains.

The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by a member of the GRIN and, if her/his research falls with the domain of ethics (broadly conceived), s/he will be attached to the Centre for Research on Ethics (CRÉ), whose mission is to contribute to interdisciplinary research in ethics.

GRIN is a bilingual research group. Candidates must have sufficient knowledge of both French and English to be able to participate in the activities of the GRIN.

General rules:

  • Candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. after April 30, 2011.
  • Candidates must have defended their thesis before September 1.

The GRIN will offer to its fellows:

  • A gross salary of 36 000.00$ per year[2] ;
  • An individual workstation ;
  • Access to the university services (libraries, etc.) ;
  • Assistance for material organisation of the stay.

In return, the fellows are expected to:

  • Pursue the research project as submitted ;
  • Participate in the GRIN’s activities (conferences, seminars, lectures) ;
  • Using those activities to present their ongoing research to their fellow researchers (CRÉ and GRIN)
  • Be present on a regular basis where the postdoc will be located (e.g. at CRÉ).

Applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • The nature and quality of the research project and its relevance to the mission of the GRIN and CRÉ ;
  • The quality of previous research by the applicant and the potential benefits to the applicant from a stay in the Group.

Candidates should send the following documents to the GRIN:

  • Their curriculum vitae ;
  • An article written or published over the last three years ;
  • A research project of up to 1500 words ;
  • Two letters of reference (to be sent directly to the GRIN before the deadline) ;
  • A doctoral academic transcript (if possible) ;
  • The properly filled out form.

[2]  Please note that provincial and federal taxes, as well as other deductions, will be withheld from paycheck, for a total deduction of about 6 to 7% of the salary
