The work and legacy of Charles W. Mills
Call for submissions
In the wake of the publication of the French translation of Charles W. Mills’ The Racial Contract (Mémoire d’encrier, Montreal, 2023), this special issue of The Ethics Forum/Ateliers de l’éthique exceptionally invites contributions in the form of critical studies of his works, comparative studies, and short commemorative essays, in addition to academic articles. Papers may address (but are not limited to) the following topics:
- Mills’ political philosophy
- Mills’ philosophy and metaphysics of race (including a study of the debates between Mills and the eliminativists -Appiah, Zack, etc.)
- Mills’ philosophy of structural racism (and its debates with proponents of competing approaches (behavioural, doxastic, volitional, etc.)
- The contract of domination and non-ideal theory
- The epistemology of ignorance (the relationship to Gordon’s white bad faith, and Drinnon’s self-mystification)
- The politics of Mills’ citations Mills’ relationship to liberalism, feminism, marxism, and Black Radical Tradition
- The debate between Mills and the proponents of multiculturalism
- The place of reparation in Mills’ philosophy Mills and Caribbean anti-colonial struggles
- The contract of domination and its application to the phenomena of neocolonialism, sexism, ableism, heterosexism.

Format : Texts from approximately 6000 to 12000 words – Times New Roman, 12 points – Notes placed at end of text and not end of page.

The journal is indexed in Philosopher’s Index, Philpapers.org, Google Scholar, Directory of Open Access Journals, Portail BiblioSHS de l’INIST and Papyrus, and in many other catalogs that use information from the above catalogs. Only those texts that are deemed publishable following the two- or three-peer double-blind review process will be published.
