Professor of applied ethics and social philosophy: Université de Moncton
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is looking to fill a regular tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Applied Ethics and Social Philosophy. This position is affiliated with the Department of Philosophy, which offers an undergraduate program for students.
Flexibility and versatility in teaching are required. The successful candidate should have strengths and a keen interest in teaching a variety of undergraduate courses. In addition to teaching courses in ethics (general and applied, including animal ethics and business ethics), the candidate will teach courses in social philosophy (philosophy of culture, feminism and gender theories, etc.) and offer supervision to students. The successful candidate is also expected to participate in the Department’s and Faculty’s community activities and services.

Specifications
- Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in ethics and/or social philosophy. Candidates who are about to obtain their doctorate within the next year will also be considered.
- Priority will be given to candidates with a good research record, who demonstrate the potential to develop a funded research program in their area of specialization and that will contribute to the scientific reputation of the Department of Philosophy and the Faculty.
- Teaching experience at university level is an asset.
- Fluency in spoken and written French is essential from the outset.
The application file should include:
- a letter of intent specifying teaching and research interests;
- a detailed curriculum vitae;
- a copy of university transcripts and diplomas obtained;
- if applicable, a letter of recommendation from the thesis supervisor stating the level of progress in doctoral studies alongside a timeline for obtaining the doctorate;
- a copy (or DOI link) of publications, a description of anticipated research activities (maximum 5 pages) and any other relevant documents to assess research potential;
- examples of course outlines, evaluations or exams, textbooks/course notes, student or peer evaluations of teaching and any other relevant documents for assessing teaching skills; in the case of candidates with no teaching experience, their vision or philosophy of university teaching;
- For references, three letters of recommendation sent directly to the Dean at jean-francois.thibault@umoncton.ca, including the competition reference number.
Please note that the selection committee may ask candidates to make a research presentation and present a simulated course or seminar.
