Law and Economics of Nature

Sacha Bourgeois-Gironde et son équipe de l’Institut Jean Nicod lance le projet « Environnement : concepts et normes », dans l’objectif de poursuivre une recherche interdisciplinaire sur les structures conceptuelles qui sous-tendent notre cognition environnementale et sur les mécanismes institutionnels qui président à notre relation à l’environnement et aux entités de la nature. Les recherches de l’équipe relèvent de la philosophie, de l’économie, du droit, des sciences cognitives et comportementales, et de l’écologie théorique ou appliquée.

Dans le cadre de ce projet, un séminaire « Law and Economics of Nature » est organisé et sera tenu en ligne le 9 décembre 2021 (16h00 CET / Paris).

The seminar discusses the legal and and economic statuses of environmental resources and entities. The current sequence is dedicated to the Chilean constitutional reform. Since the 1980 Pinochet Constitution hydric resources have been privatised. That status is now being discussed under the constitutional reform taking place in Chile after the major 2019 social movement in that country.

Eminent specialists on this issue, Profs. Rivera Bravo and Donoso will comment on the main elements of the Chilean water system, especially the legal, institutional and management issues, including references to the legal modifications that are currently ongoing on this issue (mainly the Water Code reform) and the current constitutional process, in which water resources are having a relevant role. Professors Rivera Bravo and Donoso are part of the Water Law and Management Center of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
